Colleen, a 22-year-old woman, experienced severe postpartum hemorrhage after giving birth, leading to massive blood loss and loss of consciousness. Her gynecologist believed she was "in fact dead." From a vantage point near the ceiling, she observed her own "cadaverously pale, blood-soaked body" on the operating table and watched the medical team rushing to save her. She witnessed a tremendous heated argument between her gynecologist who insisted it was "useless" and "much too late" because she was dead, and an anesthetist who screamed "She's just a kid. We've got to do something!" The anesthetist literally forced the reluctant gynecologist to join the resuscitation efforts. Colleen was shocked to hear coarse swear words exchanged between the two doctors. Days later in the ICU, when the anesthetist entered her room, she immediately recognized him and thanked him for saving her life. When he asked why she was thanking him, she recounted the entire scene including the argument and specific coarse language used. Though initially incredulous, after hearing all details he was not overly astonished and validated her experience by sharing that he had encountered other patients with similar NDEs. This corroboration from a central participant makes her account strong evidence for veridical perception during NDEs.
