Bill Hernlund, a 23-year-old Air Force crash-rescue firefighter, was blown backward by an airplane explosion that slammed him against his truck, causing severe head and chest trauma. He lost consciousness and was later triaged as deceased by arriving medics. His experience began with floating above the scene where he observed two colleagues, Dan and Jim, dragging a body while wearing aluminized suits with hoods that should have made identification impossible, yet he somehow knew who they were. He realized the body was his own when he felt no pain and deduced he was the only one in that position. After entering a dark tunnel with spiraling blue-green lights, he was drawn at incredible speed toward a Being of Light who radiated unconditional love and initiated a comprehensive life review through non-verbal questions about how he felt about his life and how he treated others. Every event from childhood to the crash flashed before him, and though he felt shame for some actions, the Being quickly forgave all his errors. The Being told him his work was not done and he must return. He instantly found himself back in his body with all the pain returned. When he later told his doctor he had died, he was scheduled for psychological evaluations, teaching him to keep quiet about the experience for nearly two decades.
