Dr. Ron Smothermon, a psychiatrist and neurologist, was brutally attacked in his home in October 1984 by a psychotic houseguest who stabbed him thirteen times in the chest, neck, and back with a ten-inch knife. As the attacker drew back for a fourteenth fatal blow to his heart, time stopped and a hallway of solid light appeared. The light then exploded into a being Dr. Smothermon instantly knew was God - a "silent, atomic bomb blast of white light" and "tsunami of infinite, unconditional love" that transformed him into perfect peace and ineffable ecstasy. In that timeless moment, God's nine primary qualities were imprinted on his consciousness: infinite love, knowledge, power, authority, humor, kindness, joy, purity, and humility. Immersed in this overwhelming divine love, he was asked telepathically, "Will you come now or later?" Remarkably, his immediate concern was not self-preservation but worry for how murder would affect his attacker Amin's life, demonstrating the transformative power of God's love to override even survival instinct. After also considering his three-year-old son, he chose "Later." Instantly, time resumed with a "Clink, clink" as the ten-inch steel knife blade was "cleanly sliced into two pieces," the heat forcing Amin to drop it. Police subdued Amin and doctors later expressed amazement that a neck wound had somehow missed every vital artery, vein, and nerve. The broken knife served as physical evidence of divine intervention at the precise moment of his spiritual decision, providing tangible verification of the supernatural event.
