Gary, a young artist, lost control of his car on a snowy winter evening, hit his head on the windshield and lost consciousness. His car ended up submerged in a brook. While unconscious, he experienced leaving his body and observing from 100-200 feet above and to the south of the accident scene. He saw the ambulance arriving and people trying to extract him from the car to take him to the hospital. He felt the warmth, kindness, and compassion emanating from the rescuers. He also sensed a very powerful source of all kindness, but being afraid of it, he rejected it saying "No." At that moment, he left the planet, traveling beyond the solar system and galaxy into a void beyond anything physical. Initially calm, the experience became unbearable and horrific as hours seemed to pass with absolutely no sensation - no pain, but also no hot, cold, light, taste, or smell - only the feeling of traveling at extreme speed through nothingness. The complete sensory deprivation became torture. He panicked, struggled, and prayed desperately to return. He then communicated with his deceased sister, and at that moment returned to his body, which had been moved to the hospital. This distressing NDE featured a terrifying void experience of complete isolation and sensory deprivation after rejecting a divine presence.
