Fr. Jean Derobert, a French seminarian and spiritual son of Padre Pio, was executed by firing squad in Algeria by the FLN in 1958 along with five other soldiers. He immediately experienced disembodiment, seeing his bloodied body among dead comrades. He began ascending through a tunnel where he saw many faces transitioning from somber to luminous as he rose. He experienced his glorified body - able to see all around without turning, feeling no wounds, existing outside of time. He visited his parents' home in France and communicated telepathically with Pope Pius XII. He entered a beautiful scenery with soft blue light where he saw thousands of people all appearing about 30 years old, including those who had died at different ages. He saw saints as drops of light, then Mary in full radiance with her ineffable smile, Jesus behind her, and dove into the Father's light experiencing total fulfillment. He was then found alive with bullet holes in clothing but no wounds, which his commander called a miracle. Padre Pio later told him "You really took me for a ride" suggesting he had accompanied the journey.
