Fr. Cedric Pisegna, then a 20-year-old college student who had fallen away from Catholicism, experienced an out-of-body experience while watching a Red Sox game at his parents' home in Massachusetts. Despite not being near death, he felt himself being pulled through a tunnel-like passageway against his will by a magnetic force. He instinctively knew he was transcending to God. At the tunnel's end, he encountered an overwhelming light more brilliant than the sun, describing it as pure, living luminescent light. He was bathed in this light and experienced God's glory as rhythmic, powerful surges running through him like electricity. He could actually see thick horizontal lines of glory moving upward through him, comparing it to waves through a flag. The experience brought pure bliss, ecstasy, and complete happiness. He stood before God's throne experiencing the beatific vision. The encounter was so powerful it happened twice, confirming its reality. Though he was away from his body for about 30 minutes, the experience led him to become a priest and dedicate his life to sharing this glimpse of eternity.
