B. W. Melvin, previously an atheist, was working in extreme heat on the outskirts of Tucson in summer 1980 when temperatures reached 124 degrees. Seeking relief, he took a drink from a cooler in a truck, taking a long guzzle of what seemed warm and slimy. Upon inspection, they discovered the cooler contained green fungus and worm-like creatures swimming in putrid green-brown muck. He became deathly ill with severe agony, vomiting, and high fever that paradoxically made him feel extremely cold. He contracted Vibrio Cholerae, a deadly waterborne illness.
Hours later, while unconscious, he found himself sitting in a room watching his entire sixty-year life pass by at incredibly high speed in what appeared to be a video format. As the life review approached his current age, it slowed down. When he regained consciousness on the roadside where paramedics had pulled him from the car, he was momentarily disoriented about his location and age. During his out-of-body experience, he saw himself in a room watching this life review, then encountered a being in white robes whom he recognized as Jesus from holy cards. He was shown hell, experiencing unspeakable horror, putrid stench, intense screams, flames, and extreme heat. He witnessed demons tormenting people in cages and felt the terror of being hopelessly lost forever. The Lord then rescued him from that horrible place. When found by a friend, he suddenly returned to life and was taken to the hospital. The doctor confirmed he had contracted Vibrio Cholerae and had passed the critical stage, considering him lucky to survive. The experience transformed this atheist into a believer in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
