Barbara S experienced an NDE at age 10-11 while at her family's cabin in northern Michigan during summer 1962. While wading in a crystal-clear river at chest height, she stepped into deep water and went under, unable to swim. The river current moved her sideways at about 3-5 mph while she remained underwater with eyes open.
Upon leaving her body, Barbara entered a brilliant clear white light that enveloped her completely. All fear of drowning instantly vanished, replaced by incredible love and total acceptance. She recognized herself as being part of this light while maintaining her individual identity, feeling she had "come home" to where she belonged. The light contained a presence that communicated telepathically, telling her "you are here to learn how to love and to gain knowledge" with all implications of these concepts imparted instantly. The message encompassed not just romantic love but love of nature, acceptance of all people regardless of race, and universal human equality. Similarly, knowledge meant not just academic learning but understanding different cultures and histories. Barbara understood this wasn't just her personal mission but the purpose of all mankind on Earth. She felt this was a reminder of what she had "signed up for" in this life. The experience has guided her entire life path, leading her to run an international business for 25 years working with foreign students and professors, literally fulfilling the mission given during her NDE. Her post-experience belief in reincarnation ("we have many lives") directly contradicts Hebrews 9:27 about dying once then judgment. Her rejection of hell as "man-made" contradicts clear biblical teaching.
