Helen, blind from birth and now 45, described two OBEs. The first occurred in 1974 in a boarding house while lying down. She saw herself on the bed from above, recognizing it as her body like "seeing a landmark." She wasn't scared, saying "Oh, is that where I'm supposed to come back to?" and "Oh well, that's who I am and I'm on this bed and I'll come back." She wasn't very surprised by the visual experience. She then found herself outside seeing trees, plants, and people walking about, which excited her greatly. In 1985 while living in England, she had another OBE where she saw herself from above sitting relaxed in a chair, looking happy and not dead. She again floated outside her room and recognized certain friends walking to various shops in the neighborhood. She emphasized that her vision was clear during these experiences, able to see and recognize people and surroundings despite being blind from birth.
