Vicki, blind from birth, experienced her first NDE at age 12 on February 12, 1963, from appendicitis and peritonitis. Similar to her later experience, she separated from her body, went through a tube, and emerged in a realm of light. She underwent her first life review, seeing her entire life in detail despite never having had vision. She saw specific incidents including finding and returning a crucifix belonging to another blind girl named Bunny, seeing the dormitory rooms, metal chairs, round tables with plastic tablecloths in the dining room. She saw her blind friends Debby and Diane, with Debby appearing plump with fluid retention and a shunt for hydrocephalus, and Diane appearing delicate and crippled. She also witnessed a violent scene with her abusive grandmother. Jesus appeared to her in this experience as well, embracing her and showing her the life review. Her housemother later validated her descriptions of Debby and Diane's appearances. This was Vicki's first experience of anything resembling sight, leaving her shocked and in awe.
