Vicki, blind from birth due to excessive oxygen in an incubator causing optic nerve damage, was seriously injured in a car accident on February 2, 1973. Thrown from the vehicle, she suffered a skull fracture, concussion, and damage to neck, back and leg. At Harborview Hospital, she found herself on the ceiling watching a male doctor and female staff member working on her body, overhearing their concern about potential deafness from eardrum damage. She recognized her body by her long hair (partially shaved), wedding ring, and her father's ring. She rose through the hospital ceilings, briefly seeing the roof, city lights, and buildings below. Sucked into a dark tube, she moved toward light while hearing wind chime music. She emerged onto grass in a place of tremendous light and love where everyone was made of light. She met five deceased people: blind schoolmates Debby and Diane (appearing healthy and "in their prime"), caretakers Mr. and Mrs. Zilk, and her grandmother. She experienced total omniscient knowledge and understanding. Jesus appeared to her with beard, long hair, and robe with sash, telling her she must return to learn, teach, and have children. She experienced a complete life review seeing her entire life from birth, then returned with a "sickening thud" to her pain-filled body.
