Five-year-old Pegi Robinson was at a pond with her older brother John when she found a floating board to use as a raft. After calling to her brother to show him, he swam over, took her board, and continued doing laps with it, leaving Pegi to drown in the brown, muddy water. She desperately struggled to stay afloat, repeatedly surfacing for air only to be pulled back under, becoming increasingly disoriented in the churning water as she was dragged deeper.
While drowning, Pegi suddenly found herself at the ceiling of her family's kitchen, looking down at her mother and sister preparing items for a picnic. She could feel their thoughts and concentration. Then back in the water, her throat burning, she suddenly "woke up" to find the water now transparent green and shining. Feeling rested and fine, she saw fish swimming past her face, bumping into her body which moved like driftwood. Realizing the fish knew she was dead, she decided she didn't want to be a dead girl at the pond bottom. Rising to treetop level, Pegi could see across Route 7 to the Ohio River and observed the landscape from her elevated perspective. She visited a house where elderly people at a kitchen table told her to "check the graveyards" when she asked about children to play with. Hovering over the pond, she watched her family and felt intense anger at her brother for causing her death. Through this, she received the painful knowledge that her family didn't love her, followed by a voice stating: "Children are sent here to be loved. That is why God sends them here." Planning to return to the pond to end her life permanently, Pegi was stopped by an angel who told her not to, saying "you'll have a lot of love someday." The angel's prediction proved true - Pegi went on to foster 60 children, adopt 10, have 2 biological children, adopt her nephew, and through remarriage gained 2 stepdaughters and adopted two sibling groups. Her life mission of rescuing unloved children directly stemmed from her NDE revelation about children being sent to Earth to be loved.
