Seven-year-old Loreli Drache was at her family's Wisconsin farm visiting one of five ponds with her aunt, uncle, and brother. While her brother and uncle stayed in shallow water, Loreli and her aunt went to deeper waters where a pier extended over a 30-foot deep flooded quarry. Entranced by the sunset reflecting on the water, Loreli felt drawn toward it. When her aunt left to check on the others, Loreli was left alone and subsequently fell into the water, though she has no conscious memory of how it happened.
Unusually, Loreli sank feet-first rather than head-first, screaming underwater as she watched her air escape in bubbles. The moment she accepted death, panic transformed into profound peace as her consciousness separated from her body. From above, she observed the scene and remarkably experienced "oneness" with her family members' consciousness - knowing their exact thoughts as they discovered her drowning. She found humor in their desperate rescue plans while feeling completely detached and at peace. Rising higher, Loreli could see for miles and checked on her mother's consciousness at home, seeing her cooking and wondering when they would return. She then found herself in a misty realm with a massive archway of brilliant white and amber light containing a divine being. Though she couldn't see anyone, she sensed a guide beside her. For what felt like eons, she argued telepathically with the being, refusing to return to her body. Finally, a deep, authoritative male voice that seemed to come from everywhere commanded: "You must go back. You have more to do." After being rescued, Loreli didn't speak until the next day and felt disconnected from her body for about a year. The experience left her with heightened psychic sensitivity, including prophetic dreams and the ability to sense when people were about to die (appearing as "wax dummies" to her). She could predict pregnancies and their outcomes up to a year in advance. The integration was difficult as her family seemed different afterward, and other children found her strange but special. She spent much time on swings to recreate the out-of-body feeling and sang angelic music without words.
