Three-year-old Jacob Cooper was playing at a playground when he climbed to the top of a slide. Unknown to anyone, he had contracted pertussis (whooping cough), a potentially fatal condition for young children. At the top of the slide, Jacob suddenly lost his ability to breathe completely and his body shut down. He experienced what he described as a "gigantic crack, like thunder" as his consciousness separated from his physical form, entering what he called "the breath of eternity."
Jacob's experience was unique for a three-year-old as it included a life review - not just of his current brief life but also memories of past lives. He encountered an endless sea of youthful, childlike angels floating peacefully and sending unconditional love and healing. During his life review, he saw a past life where he had ended his own life, and his current suffocation experience was presented as an opportunity for spiritual evolution through surrender rather than struggle. The veridical aspects included precognitive visions of his future. He saw himself helping many people as a healer and speaker, which later manifested when a woman with purple hair approached him at a yoga seminar and confirmed she saw him speaking to crowds as a healer. He also saw specific future events that came to pass. When given the choice to stay or return, he chose to come back after seeing his future mission. Upon returning, Jacob found himself surrounded by angels visible only to him at the playground. He told his father about the experience, saying it wouldn't make sense now but would later. The experience transformed him profoundly - he developed heightened intuition, became a clinical social worker specializing in past life regression therapy, and dedicated his life to helping others understand consciousness beyond death. His NDE gave him the certainty that we are eternal beings having temporary physical experiences.
