Five-year-old Rick became severely ill at home following surgery to remove a fungus from his head, developing meningitis (bacterial brain infection). His parents called an ambulance, but by arrival he had high fever and was barely alive. Rick left his physical body and observed the transport team carrying him from the house, following above as they loaded him into the ambulance.
In a remarkable experience, Rick briefly entered his sister's head and saw the world through her eyes. He then observed his father weeping while getting into the car to follow the ambulance, feeling sorry for the pain his possible death was causing. Rick traveled ahead to the hospital to preview his room, seeing a twelve-year-old girl who would be moved to give him the room alone due to his severe condition. Rick then left earth and traveled down a long tunnel, emerging through a bright opening into fog. A border like a beach waterline separated him from the true Light. He understood crossing into the Light would mean no return to his body. The Light was all love and knowledge, with a warm, friendly sky. While deciding whether to enter the Light, he suddenly returned to his body. Rick's family was amazed by the rich details - seeing his father crying in the car behind the ambulance, the girl being transferred from his room before arrival, all while comatose. Rick developed two strong beliefs: life is precious but death isn't feared, and we're born with inner knowledge to solve problems if we can overcome our egos.
