Eight-year-old Michelle was brought to the emergency room by her mother, feeling ill and extremely disoriented. After providing a urine sample, she became unresponsive and quickly slipped into unconsciousness. Tests revealed she was in a diabetic coma with the highest blood sugar level ever recorded at the hospital. She remained in deep coma for several days before awakening with remarkable stories.
Initially reluctant to discuss her experience, Michelle began drawing with crayons provided by Dr. Morse. She described losing consciousness while feeling nauseous and dizzy, then suddenly floating above her body looking down at herself. She observed two female doctors pushing her on a stretcher toward a room. While floating, she felt good without the sickness and head pain she had experienced before. In the second part of her experience, which her mother knew about but Michelle was hesitant to discuss, she found herself lying down with many people in white standing behind her, continuously urging her to push a red button. In front of her were two buttons - one red and one green. Despite the white-clothed beings' insistence on the red button, Michelle knew she should push the green one because the red button would mean not returning to life. She pushed the green button and awoke from the coma. Michelle described the beings as doctors because they were big, dressed in white, and frightened her, though they had characteristics other children describe as angels. The experience required her to make a conscious decision about returning to life.
