At age sixteen, a patient underwent surgery and had an intense near-death experience while under general anesthesia. The patient had been completely unconscious under anesthetic when suddenly they found themselves traveling somewhere and then encountered a Being that radiated unmeasurable love. The patient felt comfortable and very glad to be with this Being. During the encounter, the patient reflected on their young life and physical problems, expressing gladness to be "done with that one." However, the Being disagreed, stating "You didn't do much," spoken patiently. This immediately filled the patient with a sense of having an unfulfilled mission. When the patient said "Oh you're right, maybe I should go back," they were instantly returned to their body, experiencing heaviness, restriction, and pain. The return was accompanied by anger at being sent back after only saying "maybe" rather than definitively wanting to return. Since the experience, the patient has maintained a persistent sense of an unfulfilled mission to do something for mankind. They became a nurse but continue to feel they haven't yet discovered exactly what they're supposed to do.
