Helen underwent a near-death experience during intestinal surgery when medical complications arose. She vividly recalls being above the bed, no longer inhabiting her physical body, and looking down at herself while experiencing internal dialogue about not wanting the surgical team to continue cutting. From this elevated perspective, she observed the medical team working extensively on her body for many hours. The out-of-body state provided a unique vantage point from which she could witness the entire surgical procedure while remaining completely detached from physical sensations.
Following the initial out-of-body phase, Helen found herself transported to what she described as a valley that strongly reminded her of the biblical valley of the shadow of death. Despite this death-associated imagery, the valley appeared very pretty and pleasant, inducing a profound sense of calm. Within this valley, she encountered a person who she later realized was her deceased grandfather, whom she had never met in life. Her grandfather addressed her directly, saying "Helen, don't give up. You're still needed. I'm not ready for you yet," providing encouragement and indicating her earthly purpose remained unfulfilled. The experience was accompanied by distinctive auditory elements described as spiritual music with church-like qualities, possessing both sad and awesome characteristics. Helen emphasized the powerful nature of meeting her grandfather, recognizing him despite never having known him in life, suggesting a form of spiritual recognition that transcended earthly acquaintance. The combination of the valley setting, ancestral encounter, and spiritual music created a cohesive experience that left her with clear memories of being needed for continued earthly existence.
