Andrew P, a high school senior preparing for graduation in June 1955, drowned during a class picnic at a Michigan lake. Despite his mother's warnings about cold water and eating, he attempted to swim to a floating platform 100 yards offshore. Halfway there, severe cramps paralyzed his legs and eventually his entire body. After prolonged struggle and submersion, he sank to the lake bottom, becoming entangled in weeds and mud. In his extreme pain and terror, an inner voice told him to "let go for just a moment."
Upon letting go, Andrew was instantly hurled through a black tunnel, looking back to see his body stuck in the weeds. He moved toward a brilliant Light "like a thousand exploding suns" that didn't hurt his eyes. All pain, cold, and fear vanished, replaced by warmth, peace, and joy. He entered an immense sphere where he experienced all his lifetimes - past, present, and future - simultaneously in 360 degrees, with no linear time, no judgment, only observation. He then merged with the Light, which appeared in human-like form radiating brightness. The Light knew his name, saying "Andy, do not be afraid. Andy, I love you. Andy, we love you." In the Light, Andrew became one with it while retaining his individual identity. He was surrounded by millions of other Lights who all knew each other. He experienced complete universal knowledge, understanding everything without questions. The Light knew everything about him and loved him unconditionally - no fear, judgment, or punishment, only love. When the Light told him three times he must return, he resisted but was instantly back on the beach. The experience left him profoundly changed, eventually leading him to write poetry and books about his experience, including "The Ithon" and "Alive in the Light." --- Biblical Summary --- Biblical elements: The experience powerfully depicts divine love and personal relationship with God, who knew Andrew by name (Isaiah 43:1).
