Stacy became severely dehydrated which triggered a grand mal seizure, a serious medical emergency that can be life-threatening. He was hospitalized for treatment of the seizure and its underlying cause. During this medical crisis, he experienced a profound near-death experience centered on a divine encounter.
A voice that came from everywhere—inside him, around him, back in time, forward in time—asked him a simple yet profound question: "Are you finished?" He instantly comprehended the full meaning: "Are you finished living in your body, on this material plane with the depressive self-disregard and emotional disdain for yourself and others that is interwoven throughout your being?" He understood he couldn't continue living this way as it was not aligned with God's universe. The question was delivered matter-of-factly: unemotional, nonjudgmental, loving, and accepting, without blame, shame, guilt, criticism, or anger. Stacy felt he had all the time that ever existed to answer. His perception of time as an illusion of material senses became clear. He was totally relaxed, calm, and peaceful, comprehending everything about his life. He was home in God's arms, receiving a glimpse of Universal Knowledge through God's eyes. However, remembering his wife and their unfinished time together, he turned away from the tunnel, light, and his grandparents, choosing to return. The experience revealed the incompatibility of self-destructive patterns with divine reality, the illusory nature of time, and the importance of earthly relationships. God's approach was entirely non-judgmental while still conveying the need for fundamental life changes.
