A woman experienced a heart attack and found herself initially in a black void, knowing she had left her physical body behind and was dying. In this darkness, she called out for help, saying "God, I did the best I knew how at the time I did it. Please help me." Her plea was immediately answered as she was moved out of the blackness through a pale gray region, gliding and moving swiftly toward a mysterious destination.
In the distance, she could see a gray mist approaching, and she felt herself rushing toward it with increasing speed. She experienced an intense desire to reach this barrier, feeling she could not get there fast enough to satisfy her longing. As she drew closer, she discovered she could see through the mist to what lay beyond. On the other side, she perceived people whose forms appeared just as they do on earth, as well as structures that could be interpreted as buildings. The entire realm beyond the mist was permeated with the most gorgeous light - described as a living, golden yellow glow of a pale color, entirely unlike the harsh gold color known on earth. As she approached still closer and felt certain she was about to pass through the mist into this beautiful realm, her Uncle Carl suddenly appeared from the other side. He had died many years earlier, yet here he stood blocking her path. He firmly told her, "Go back. Your work on earth has not been completed. Go back now." Despite her strong desire to continue into the light-filled realm, she had no choice in the matter. She was immediately returned to her body, where she felt the horrible pain in her chest from the heart attack and heard her little boy crying, "God, bring my mommy back to me." The experience left her with absolute certainty about the reality of the afterlife and the continued existence of deceased loved ones. Uncle Carl's intervention at the precise moment before she crossed the barrier saved her life and sent her back to complete her earthly responsibilities, particularly caring for her young son.
