A man suffered a severe fall that resulted in his heart stopping and left his body badly mangled with extensive injuries. The medical team immediately began resuscitation efforts while he lay on a bed, working desperately to restart his heart and save his life. During this critical period when his heart had stopped beating, he experienced a profound out-of-body phenomenon.
While the doctors worked on his physical form, he found himself separated from his body, observing the entire resuscitation attempt from an external vantage point. He could clearly see himself lying on the bed as the medical team performed their life-saving procedures. The visual perspective was remarkably clear - he could see both the bed and the doctor working on his severely injured body. The extent of his injuries was fully visible to him from this external viewpoint, and he could observe how badly his body had been damaged in the fall. A notable aspect of his experience was the emotional response to seeing his own injured form. As he looked at his physical body lying there on the bed and observed the severe damage from the fall, he felt genuinely bad about the condition of his body. He expressed real regret at seeing how badly "messed up" his body was from the injuries. This emotional reaction while observing his own body from outside demonstrates maintained consciousness and emotional capacity during the out-of-body state. Eventually, the resuscitation efforts succeeded and his heart was restarted.
