Lloyd experienced a severe allergic reaction to medication that led to a near-death experience. The reaction was serious enough to threaten his life and cause him to lose consciousness, leading to a profound spiritual encounter.
During his NDE, Lloyd encountered a divine light that appeared as a transparent boundary. He passed into this light, which he described as being hard to put into words. He was blinded by the light's intensity, unable to see anything else, yet the light did not hurt his eyes despite being like looking into the sun a million times over - a pure white light of extraordinary brilliance. Within this light, Lloyd felt warm, safe, and peaceful in a way he had never experienced before. He was enveloped in the presence of pure, unconditional love that absorbed him completely. As the light absorbed him, Lloyd's life was shown to him in a review. He may have cried and felt ashamed about aspects of his life, but he simultaneously felt the overwhelming love and knew everything was all right. He had absolute certainty that he was in the presence of God. Additionally, Lloyd sensed or knew that his son, who had died in an accident at age thirty-two, was safe and in the light. The experience provided Lloyd with profound reassurance about the continuity of existence after death. He came to know with certainty that death is not the end and that there is life after death. His encounter with his deceased son's presence in the light gave him comfort about his loss and confirmed his understanding of the afterlife as a reality rather than just a belief.
