A five-year-old boy contracted meningitis and fell into a deep coma, his life hanging in the balance. During this critical period of unconsciousness, he experienced what would later be recognized as a profound near-death experience with remarkable evidential value.
While in the comatose state, the child had an otherworldly encounter that would prove to have significant veridical elements. He met a little girl on the other side who identified herself as his sister, providing specific information he could not have known. The girl told him "I'm your sister. I died a month after I was born. I was named after your grandmother. Our parents called me Rietje for short." When the boy emerged from his coma and shared this experience with his parents, they were profoundly shocked. The parents had made a deliberate decision not to tell their son about his deceased older sister, planning to wait until he was older to share this family history. The sister, indeed named Rietje after the grandmother, had died of poisoning approximately one year before the boy was born, making it impossible for him to have known about her through normal means. This case provides compelling evidence of veridical perception during a near-death experience, as the child gained accurate information about a deceased sibling whose existence had been deliberately kept from him. The parents' shocked confirmation and their explicit statement that they had never told him about Rietje establishes this as a clear case of knowledge obtained through non-physical means during the NDE.
