At age fourteen, Demi went to the beach with a friend on the rough Oregon Coast. While searching for seashells, she stepped into a deep sinkhole that took her underwater, trapping her in sand. She fought desperately to reach the surface but the current was too strong. She soon felt peace and love, with awareness of her soul leaving her body through the top of her head. She felt no distress about leaving her body and didn't look back at it.
Demi was embraced by an overwhelming sense of love and acceptance. She entered a tunnel surrounded by indescribable colors and music unlike anything she had seen or heard before. She felt no fear, only an unbelievable sense of love. Ahead was a light so bright she feared it would hurt her eyes, but it didn't. She knew the light was where all things come from and return, and that when back inside the light she would know and be everything. She received specific messages: the most important thing in the universe is love, we are all the same, and she was exactly the same as everything in the universe down to every blade of grass. She was told it wasn't her time and she had things to do on this plane. Despite protesting, she was gently told she had to return to complete things she was meant to do. She was grabbed by her hair and pulled to the surface, angry about returning. Years later, watching a program about quantum physics and string theory provided her epiphany about the blade of grass message. Inside every quark are millions of energy strings that determine whether something becomes a rock, elephant, person, or grass - validating her NDE message that we are all the same.
