In February 1973, Akemi was swimming with her cousin when a current dragged them out to sea. Her panicking cousin stepped on Akemi's head trying to reach the surface, causing Akemi to lose orientation. Unable to determine up from down, her swimming attempts caused her to sink deeper. She heard water entering her lungs and felt brief pain.
Akemi then experienced a complete life review from age three until the drowning moment. She observed her body slowly sinking in the water from an outside perspective. Overwhelming peace and indescribable love filled her awareness as she saw and approached a shining light. The sensations intensified with proximity to the light. A lifeguard's rescue attempt violently pulled her back - she felt powerfully vacuumed/sucked away from the light as painful air entered her lungs. The pain was so intense she scratched the lifeguard, causing him to release her. She immediately returned toward the peaceful light. A second rescue successfully brought her to the surface where she lost consciousness, regaining awareness on shore after vomiting seawater. The experience profoundly changed Akemi's understanding: death is not as feared, we should give more love than customary, and death is merely life transition. She developed psychic abilities including sensing impending deaths, premonitory dreams (correctly foresaw President Fujimori fleeing to Japan months before it happened), and intuitive knowledge through touch. She assists others in danger, once saving a drowning man at a pool by sensing his distress. --- Biblical Summary --- Biblical elements: Life review, out-of-body experience seeing physical form below, approaching divine light with increasing love and peace, and transformation toward greater love align with biblical spiritual experiences. Her subsequent gift of helping others in danger could be seen as spiritual gifting. Unbiblical elements: The psychic abilities developed afterward - sensing deaths, premonitory dreams, intuitive knowledge through touch, and causing "uncomfortable unexpected events" to those who hurt her - align more with occult practices than biblical spiritual gifts. These abilities suggest opening to spiritual forces that may not be from God.
