A sergeant at Fort Dix Army base was critically ill and near death with severe heart problems while hospitalized. His sister was simultaneously dying from a diabetic coma in another part of the same hospital, though he was unaware of her critical condition. During his medical crisis, the sergeant experienced leaving his physical body and floating to the corner of the room, where he observed medical staff working on him below. While out of body, he encountered his sister's consciousness, who had also left her body and was present with him in the corner. The two had what he described as a "great conversation" about their situation, sharing this profound out-of-body state together. His sister then began moving away from him toward what appeared to be a tunnel. Despite his attempts to follow her, she repeatedly told him "It's not your time. You can't go with me because it's not your time." She continued to recede into the distance through the tunnel while he remained behind. Upon awakening and recovering consciousness, the sergeant immediately told his doctors that his sister had died, which they initially denied. However, when he insisted they check, the medical staff confirmed that his sister had indeed died at the exact time of his experience, validating his perception. This shared death experience between siblings demonstrated veridical knowledge of his sister's death that he could not have known through normal means, as he was unconscious and in a different part of the hospital when she passed away.
