Diane had been experiencing unusual drowsiness while watching afternoon television, repeatedly falling asleep on the couch with difficulty waking up. She mentioned this concerning problem to her husband who could offer no solution. Deciding to sit upright rather than lie down, she discovered this made the problem worse. Unknown to her, a gas pipe was leaking natural gas about five feet behind the couch, nearly causing her death from asphyxiation.
While watching her favorite soap opera, Diane heard a voice urgently telling her to "wake up, Diane, you have to wake up." Opening her eyes, she saw her grandmother who had died when Diane was only three years old. The grandmother smiled and told her to get up and follow to safety. Rising to follow, Diane realized she had left her body, which remained below on the sofa. She felt no fear looking at her physical form and noticed two spirits elevated beside her spiritual body. While out of body, she experienced enormous peace and love. One spirit offered her the choice to stay or return to her physical body. Diane observed her own unconscious body on the couch from an elevated position while her deceased grandmother, who died when she was three, appeared and urgently instructed her to wake up and escape the gas leak. The grandmother's intervention saved her life. After much deliberation about whether to stay in the spiritual realm or return, Diane chose to go back because she had unfinished business on earth. She took a deep, painful breath and awoke, realizing she had nearly died from gas poisoning. The gas leak was repaired immediately after her NDE. The experience taught her that "everything is known" and "God has made it so we will know everything when we die."
