Adrian L was at home with his two-and-a-half-year-old daughter in August 2004 when he suddenly felt extremely weak and ill. He managed to call his neighbor to watch his daughter. According to the neighbor, immediately after handing over his daughter, Adrian collapsed onto the bed with his eyes rolling back.
Adrian felt himself being drawn out of his body through his head, aware of rising vertically despite his body's horizontal position. All pain, worry, and negative feelings instantly vanished, replaced by complete contentment. Everything was bathed in white light with no single point of origin. He saw a large ship with a tall, luminescent female-looking creature standing on it, drawing him toward the vessel with an unspoken invitation. As he was going toward the ship, Adrian thought, "No! I must see my daughter grow up!" and immediately returned to his body. He believes he passed into a dream afterward with the same characters and settings, but recognized it as different from the NDE because it lacked the same feeling of contentedness. The experience gave Adrian comfort that "something is out there" after months of contemplating death and fearing it. However, it also caused him to doubt "the whole God thing" despite maintaining nominal Christian identity.
