Sheila from County Tyrone experienced an out-of-body experience at approximately age 3.5 in the early 1940s. She became extremely ill with alternating hot and cold temperatures. Suddenly, she left her body, looked back at herself on the bed, then traveled out through a half-open sash window. The experience was described as lovely, quick, and not frightening.
She arrived in a very nice, bright place full of flowers with a lovely feeling about it. The light was bright but not glaring. She traveled quickly toward the light and found a man there with brightness around him. When she asked if he was God, he replied, "No, I'm Grandfather Baxter." This was her grandfather who had died a couple of weeks before she was born. He appeared with a moustache, smiling, wearing a tweed coat with a flower on his lapel. He told her, "You can't come in here yet! You can't come in here until you are as old as Granny!" After returning to her body, Sheila told her mother about seeing Granddad. Her mother was in awe but never revealed the grandmother's age at death, only saying she was "old." Sheila later tried to find the grandmother's gravestone but it had been removed for church construction. She believes her grandmother would have been well into her 70s at death. At age 26, while married with her husband away, Sheila had another out-of-body experience. She felt a tight strap across her chest and couldn't breathe or move. She shot out of her body through a sash window toward a bright light. Looking back, she saw herself with long hair, mouth and eyes open, which scared her. She thought if her mother found her like that it would kill her, as a brother had recently died. She returned to her body and was extremely exhausted the next day. Since then, she has been psychic with abilities to see the future and know things she shouldn't know.
