Frank from County Longford experienced a near-drowning at age 14 in the summer of 1968. While playing with his brothers and a friend at a construction site, he fell into a water-filled hole approximately 15 feet deep and 20 feet around when the bank gave way beneath him. Unable to swim, Frank went up and down in the water 15-20 times, gasping for breath each time he surfaced. On his last submersion, he knew he wouldn't come back up. He slowly floated down until hitting the muddy bottom, then everything went pitch-black.
After losing consciousness, Frank found himself sitting on a chair in a big room facing a large projection screen. His entire life replayed before him in vivid color - summer days, winter days, everything including the moment of falling into the water. When the replay ended with blackness, he entered a tunnel and flew rapidly toward a distant light. The light was a matt light that he passed through, emerging onto what felt like sand in a beach or desert. He felt enveloped by and standing within the light itself. Before him stood approximately 25-30 people in a semicircle. Their lips moved as if talking though he couldn't hear their voices. He knew they were there to greet him and give him a warm welcome, sensing they were his deceased relatives despite not recognizing them. They wore black clothing from the early 1900s era. As they walked toward him, he began mentally reciting the Act of Contrition prayer. Halfway through the prayer, he felt a hand on his back that lifted him from the hole and pushed him to the embankment. Frank's friends and brothers pulled him out. He had been unconscious and not breathing during the experience. The hand that pushed him up enabled his rescue. The experience eliminated his fear of death and transformed his life philosophy to focus on happiness and doing the best for others. He raised his children to prioritize happiness over material success.
