Charles McKaig was an emergency room patient who died multiple times while Dr. Maurice Rawlings was attempting to revive and stabilize him through CPR. Each time he died and was revived, he had a terrifying experience that transformed both him and the doctor. When he regained consciousness between resuscitation attempts, he would yell out desperately "Don't stop! I'm in hell! I'm in hell! For God's sake, don't stop! Don't you understand? Every time you let go I'm back in hell!"
The terror in his voice and desperation convinced Dr. Rawlings this was real. Recognizing the spiritual crisis, Dr. Rawlings, though only a "social club" Christian at the time, knew enough to lead the patient in a prayer believing that Jesus is the Son of God and giving his life to Him. After McKaig prayed this prayer of salvation, he no longer went to hell during subsequent cardiac arrests. This experience had a profound impact on Dr. Rawlings, causing him to convert to genuine Christianity and begin researching near-death experiences. He noted that hell experiences are often not remembered or admitted to, coming mostly from medical staff present during resuscitation rather than patients themselves. McKaig's experience demonstrates the immediate effect of salvation prayer - after accepting Christ, his destination changed from hell to no longer experiencing hell. This case provides unique medical documentation of multiple deaths with different spiritual destinations based on salvation status.
