Freddy Vest, a part-time cowboy and home builder, had just finished calf-roping at a rodeo and was sitting on his horse when he suddenly died of a heart attack. He fell off his horse, hitting the ground with a thud. He believes he was instantly in heaven, though he did not travel through space, see angels, or notice any specific parts of heaven - he was merely in the presence of Jesus and enraptured with His love.
Jesus showed him an extraordinary sight: lights shooting up to heaven like lightning bolts or powerful fireworks and exploding into super bright light. All these shooting lights were prayers going up for him. He described it as the most astounding light show on Earth multiplied exponentially would not match the wonder of what he saw. Knowing that the bolts were prayers made the heavenly display even more striking. Freddy had a very large family with 17 brothers and sisters. With all their spouses, children, and church families praying, there were probably thousands of people praying for him. After seeing all the prayers going up as lights, he was suddenly back inside his body in the hospital. The experience suggests he may not have actually gone to heaven but was out of his body with Jesus present with him on Earth. The visualization of prayers as powerful lights shooting to heaven provided a unique perspective on the power and beauty of intercessory prayer.
