Mrs. Neer died on May 10, 1908, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and experienced one of the rare cases where someone begged to return from heaven. She reported that there was no struggle in dying, only a misty, shadowy dampness which was soon passed, and she emerged into a beautiful light. She experienced abundant life in Jesus with boundlessness and an open vision where she could truly know even as she was known.
Her entire life unraveled as a scroll before her from age nine until her death. All her sins had been blotted out as promised in Scripture, but she saw all her works of righteousness - the words spoken, prayers offered, testimonies given. However, she found them shallow and worthless because she realized she had done them not solely for Jesus but also for her own righteousness. She saw how her life, which she thought was full, was actually barren and empty because she had wrought her own way instead of yielding through the Spirit. With shame and sorrow, she saw the bruised and burdened lives of those Jesus would have freed through her - the bowed heads and broken hearts she could have helped. She realized "No man liveth to himself and no man dieth to himself." She begged with strong crying and tears not to pass on so empty, pleading until she saw her prayer was answered. Jesus looked at her with eyes of love and a nail-pierced hand gently motioned her back. She heard the command "Be thou faithful" and quickly returned to earth into her body. She awoke among rejoicing witnesses who had watched her pass and return. She was completely healed, stating "The same Living Word that had sent me back had spoken soundness into my body."
