Gary Wood was an eighteen-year-old freshman at Wayland Baptist College preparing to become a preacher when he was killed in a car accident in 1966. He was dead for approximately twenty minutes until paramedics were able to revive him. During his death, he looked down at his body and saw his life flash before him in an instant, experiencing no fear, sorrow or confusion.
While going through a tunnel, he heard angels singing in English. He saw a wall and gate so tall he could not see the top, where a 40-foot tall angel let him through. He was met by his childhood friend John who showed him around heaven. He saw a crystal clear river flowing from the throne of God and stepped into it, discovering it was ankle deep then rose to cover his entire being, cleansing him of any debris from his transition from earth. Gary observed that the streets were crystal clear pure gold, transparent unlike earthly gold due to heaven's purity. He saw many angels, some with wings and others without, each with their own personality and working diligently at assigned tasks. He witnessed a large room with body parts including legs, arms, and eyeballs. From his vantage point, he could see prayers of saints shooting up like arrows toward heaven, with angels receiving them and bringing them to God's throne room. Jesus showed him three things marking His return: a Spirit of Restoration, a Spirit of Prayer, and an Outburst of Miracles. Gary was given a commission to "make heaven real to this generation" before being sent back. His sister was in the car praying hard for him during the accident.
