Dale Black, a 19-year-old aspiring pilot, was the sole survivor of a catastrophic airplane crash on July 18, 1969, at Hollywood-Burbank Airport. The twin-engine Piper Navajo struck the Portal of the Folded Wings monument at 135 mph, killing the other two pilots instantly. Dale sustained massive injuries including broken bones throughout his body, severe facial lacerations, and a damaged right eye. He remained in a coma for three days at St. Joseph's Hospital.
During his unconscious state, Dale experienced an extensive out-of-body experience and journey to Heaven. He observed his broken body from above at the crash site and in the emergency room. He witnessed paramedics performing CPR and Dr. Homer Graham leading the trauma team. Dale then traveled through a corridor of light accompanied by two angelic guides, arriving at a magnificent celestial city surrounded by a massive multi-layered wall. At the gate, he saw the Book of Life containing his name and birth dates - both physical and spiritual. The city contained townships, gardens, animals, and beings radiating love and unity. Light, containing God's life and love, emanated from the center and ministered to everything. Dale observed multiple veridical elements during his NDE. He saw his body compressed in the mangled cockpit instrument panel, witnessed the specific medical procedures being performed, and observed Chuck Burns dying in an adjacent room while being taken by demonic forces. He accurately perceived the chaos in the emergency room and the doctors' attempts to resuscitate him. Most significantly, Dale encountered Jesus at a magnificent stairway, where Jesus asked him "What will you do with the life I give you?" before he was sent back. Upon awakening from the coma, Dale was permanently transformed. His priorities shifted from selfish ambition to serving God. Through faith and prayer, his severely damaged body was miraculously healed over two years, including his eye regaining 20/20 vision despite doctors saying he would never see properly again. Dale went on to become an airline pilot for TWA, fulfilling his dream despite medical impossibility, and dedicated his life to ministry work worldwide.
