At a hospital in New Jersey, a female patient was admitted to the neurological unit in a comatose state. During her hospitalization, she experienced a cardiac arrest and was successfully resuscitated by the medical team. A seven-foot-tall respirator was positioned beside her bed to assist with her breathing during her critical condition. The patient remained in a coma for an extended period following the cardiac arrest.
When the patient finally emerged from her coma, she told nurse Norma Bowe about having a near-death experience during her cardiac arrest. She also reported having an out-of-body experience during which she found herself floating above her body. The patient revealed that she had obsessive-compulsive disorder with a specific fixation on remembering numbers. This unusual trait became significant to her OBE verification. During her out-of-body experience, while floating above her body, the patient was able to see the top of the seven-foot respirator standing beside her bed. She told Nurse Bowe that she had memorized the serial number that was on top of the respirator. The patient provided the specific serial number to Nurse Bowe, who carefully made a note of it. This was particularly remarkable given that the serial number was completely out of view from the patient's position in the bed. A few days later, when a technician came to remove the respirator because it was no longer needed, Nurse Bowe asked him to check if there was a serial number on top of the machine. The technician climbed up to look and confirmed that there was indeed a serial number on top of the respirator. When he read it out, it exactly matched the number that the patient had given to Nurse Bowe. Norma Bowe, who is now a PhD Professor at Kean University, has shared this remarkable case as evidence of verified out-of-body experiences.
