Eight-year-old June drowned when her hair got caught in a pool drain. She had no heartbeat for over forty minutes before doctors successfully resuscitated her, making a full recovery within six weeks. During her NDE, she remembered her hair getting stuck and blacking out, then floating out of her body. She could see herself under the water but felt no fear. While out of her body, she experienced complete freedom from pain and was totally surrounded by love. She felt like a soul - neither boy nor girl, neither grown-up nor child - with a sense of absolute peace and completeness. Looking down, she saw a girl lying in bed and empathized with her pain, then realized it was herself and returned to her body. June found herself leaving the operating room and traveling down a long tunnel, at the end being bathed in bright warm light she described as "the Light of God." After experiencing this light, she never feared death again, knowing she could die at any time without fear. Years later, the day before her death, her deceased sister appeared to her saying "June, it's time to go." June called family members to say goodbye and peacefully died that night when her pacemaker failed.
