In summer 1999, 10-year-old Denise from Utah fell into a diabetic coma and was hospitalized. Tests revealed she had suffered a stroke that destroyed two-thirds of the left side of her brain. Her organs were shutting down and doctors expected she would not survive or would remain vegetative. Remarkably, she regained consciousness after three days and could walk on her own after six days. Following her recovery, Denise exhibited paranormal abilities including seeing auras around people and knowing their emotional states. She could see deceased spirits and accurately perceive people's character. During her coma, she had an NDE featuring Christian religious imagery. Her father documented her new abilities, including her ability to see energy fields and spirits, which she attributed to her out-of-body experience during the coma.
