A Wisconsin woman dying of cancer was estranged from her adult son who had previously served prison time for theft that destroyed his parents' finances. On her deathbed, she refused to see him despite his desire for reconciliation after 25 years. While she lay dying in the hospital, her son sat in a bar experiencing deep remorse and sorrow, desperately wanting to connect with his mother. He suddenly saw his mother enter the bar and was shocked and elated, crying at her appearance. As he got up to greet her, people passed between them and she vanished. Simultaneously, the dying woman woke in her hospital bed and told her daughter, "I had the strangest dream. I dreamed that I was in a bar and I saw my son sitting at a table crying, and he got up to start coming to me. And I got scared and I woke up." Dr. Laurin Bellg, the attending physician, corroborated both accounts. The mother described seeing her son crying and him getting up to approach her. The son reported seeing his mother enter, getting up to go to her, then losing sight of her in the crowd. Both independently described the same scene at the same bar near the hospital, at the same time. The mother could not physically leave her deathbed. Though they never reconciled physically before her death, this shared experience suggested a soul connection was made.
