Mellen-Thomas Benedict had terminal brain cancer with an inoperable tumor in 1982, expected to live 6-8 months. He had cardiac arrest and was clinically dead for 1.5 hours. During his extensive NDE, he left his body and received images of Earth's past and humanity's future, plus insights into biological systems. He later applied these insights to important research projects. In one University of North Texas study, he underwent hypnosis to reexperience the omniscient aspect of his NDE and generated accurate genetic information about a rare hereditary disease.
After regaining consciousness, his condition changed. After 3 days he felt more normal and lucid. Three months later, the tumor had disappeared completely. The treating doctor called it "spontaneous remission." P.M.H. Atwater verified the case, met his mother and stepfather, and followed his life. She saw his x-rays showing the brain tumor before and its absence after. His mother confirmed the tumor and that the hospice nurse felt he had died. X-rays taken about a week before he died and shortly after showed the tumor had gone, stunning doctors. Atwater stated: "I can attest that his case is genuine and his claims about the brain tumor and the conditions of his death are true." Years later the x-rays were lost during moves and the hospital had destroyed their copies per retention policy. His mother died and couldn't provide additional confirmation, making Atwater's testimony crucial. This represents complete spontaneous remission of terminal brain cancer following an extensive NDE with later verified paranormal knowledge acquisition.
