On April 25, 2003, Valerie was rushed to the hospital by ambulance unable to breathe, having lost about 47% of her oxygen. She doesn't remember the ambulance ride but during that time left her body and floated toward what she thought was heaven. She saw a bright light unlike anything she had seen before and felt indescribable peace and serenity.
Looking up, she saw her grandfather with open arms saying he would take care of her. To her left, she saw her two children telling her to come back, and she returned. After coming back, when her mother decided to hook her up to respiratory support, Valerie left her body again and observed medical decisions being made. She described furniture in the room to her family that she couldn't have physically seen. During a drug-induced coma, she heard nurses telling people she couldn't hear them, but she heard everything the whole time. The bright light affected her so intensely that for months afterward she needed sunglasses to tolerate regular light. She now believes we must trust God and feels she sometimes gets intuitive feelings about things that usually prove correct. She struggles with feeling like she belongs here anymore. --- Biblical Summary --- Biblical elements: The experience includes classic biblical elements - bright divine light, deceased relatives in a heavenly realm, grandfather's welcoming presence reflecting reunion with loved ones, and her children calling her back suggesting divine purpose for remaining. The lasting spiritual transformation and trust in God align with biblical conversion experiences. Her ongoing sense of not belonging here reflects the biblical concept of being "in but not of" the world. Unbiblical elements: None identified. The experience contains traditional Christian afterlife imagery without problematic theological elements.
