On February 14, 2008, French nursing student Laura Blanchon was hospitalized with acute meningitis, first in Coulommiers and then transferred to Paris where she was placed in a deep medically-induced coma for ten days. Her condition deteriorated rapidly, requiring mechanical life support. During this time, she experienced being stuck between two worlds, outside of space and time.
Laura's experience combined classic NDE elements with remarkable veridical perceptions. Floating above her body, she observed herself attached to machines and saw her brother crying at the foot of her bed. She clearly perceived her father holding her hand and experienced telepathic communication with him about her suffering and desire to die. Her father later confirmed he had whispered in her ear that he wanted her to go if it would end her suffering. After entering a realm of soft light with loving beings, Laura saw her recently deceased maternal great-grandmother in an elegant evening dress, who told her she would return after some rest. Most remarkably, she found herself in an unknown rustic house with a sturdy, peasant-like elderly man she had never seen, accompanied by two dogs. He sat in a wooden armchair with his head against the wall in an unusual posture, then showed her poplar trees, a weeping willow, and a hen house through a window. Laura's husband Julien and his sister Céline immediately recognized her description as their deceased grandfather, whom Laura had never met. They confirmed all details on a French talk show: his appearance, the rustic house, his peculiar sitting posture, and his beloved dogs.
