A woman undergoing carpal tunnel surgery experienced a severe allergic reaction to the local anesthetic, resulting in respiratory arrest and seizures. Her husband witnessed her apparent death before medical staff successfully resuscitated and stabilized her. The surgical team then proceeded with the planned procedure. During the surgery, while under anesthesia, she experienced both an out-of-body experience and a classic near-death experience, including passage through a tunnel and encountering a bright light.
The most remarkable aspect of this case occurred during the surgery when, while emerging from anesthesia, the patient suddenly sat up in the operating room. With seven masked medical personnel present, she pointed directly to one specific surgeon and delivered an extraordinary message. She stated: "I have met a woman. Her name is Anna. She says she has a message for you. She wants me to tell you that it is not your fault that she died." After delivering this message, she immediately fell back unconscious. The targeted surgeon became visibly emotional and left the operating room in tears, a reaction that the primary surgeon later described to the patient when she awoke. Remarkably, the patient had no memory of delivering this message, being overwhelmed by the overall NDE experience. A year later, after watching the movie Dragonfly which depicted NDEs involving messages from the deceased, she was inspired to investigate what had happened. She contacted the primary surgeon to obtain the name and contact information of the surgeon who had left the room. When she called him, he revealed the profound significance of her message. His wife, named Anna, had been dying from cancer and in a state of severe depression had committed suicide by slitting her throat. He had found her but was unable to save her, and had carried intense guilt about her death ever since. This case was thoroughly investigated by Dr. Gary Schwartz, Professor of Psychology, Medicine, Neurology, Psychiatry, and Surgery at the University of Arizona. He conducted a three-hour recorded interview with the patient, her husband, and the surgeon involved, providing multiple independent confirmations of these extraordinary events. The spontaneous mediumistic communication of unknown information about a deceased person during an NDE, delivered to a specific individual among seven masked personnel, represents a remarkable veridical element that defies conventional explanation.
