A man in his late 30s suffered cardiac arrest from narcotic patch overdose and was brought to the ER by paramedics. Dr. Monica Williams-Murphy, pregnant with her third child, had to squat like a sumo wrestler due to her gestational size to secure his airway filled with vomit. After prolonged CPR and medications, they unexpectedly achieved return of pulse. During examination, charge nurse Penny discovered narcotic patches on his back, identifying the cause. With no pupillary response or gag reflex, Dr. Williams-Murphy believed he was brain dead and would not survive. Six months later, the recovered patient visited the ER to thank her. He accurately described leaving his body and following events at his home, with paramedics, and in the ER. He knew a paramedic who cried while doing CPR. He accurately described the resuscitation room events, stating the dark-haired charge nurse (Penny) rolled him over and found patches saying "Here is our problem." He recalled Dr. Williams-Murphy discussing whether he could be an organ donor. Most remarkably, he saw light emanating from Dr. Williams-Murphy and her unborn baby during his NDE, correctly identifying the baby as a girl though this wasn't publicly known. He described experiencing things while dead that he couldn't fully share but promised to use his second chance at life differently. Dr. Williams-Murphy noted three medically inexplicable elements: his detailed recall despite appearing brain dead, knowing her baby's gender, and visual descriptions of specific events when his eyes showed no function.
