George Rodonaia, a neuropathologist and political dissident in the former Soviet Union, experienced one of the most extensively documented near-death experiences after being run over by the KGB in 1976. His death was officially confirmed at the hospital, and his corpse was placed in cold storage for three days awaiting autopsy. During this extraordinary period, Rodonaia had a profound out-of-body experience that began in darkness but transformed through positive thoughts into an increasingly detailed vision of light, starting from a pinpoint and expanding into eternally life-creating cells moving in perfect spiral symmetry. He became one with this light and experienced intense happiness.
While in this state, Rodonaia discovered remarkable telepathic abilities. He could perceive the thoughts and emotions of his wife Nino and others involved in the accident as if their thoughts were "inside of him." Most remarkably, he witnessed his wife at his gravesite, where she was mentally evaluating potential future husbands, making a mental list of their pros and cons. This deeply private mental activity was later confirmed by Nino herself, who was so disturbed by George's accurate knowledge of her unspoken thoughts that she couldn't sleep in the same room with him for a year, feeling she had lost "the privacy of her own mind." Rodonaia also experienced a remarkable incident at a nearby hospital where a friend's wife had just given birth. The constantly crying newborn drew his attention, and his vision became like X-rays, allowing him to see through the baby's body. He diagnosed a broken hip from delivery and telepathically communicated with the infant: "Don't cry. Nobody understands you." The baby immediately stopped crying, which Rodonaia attributed to children's ability to perceive transmaterial apparitions. After three days, as his autopsy was beginning, Rodonaia succeeded in opening his eyes, shocking the medical staff who had confirmed his death and frigid condition. His first words were about the baby needing urgent help. X-rays confirmed his diagnosis exactly as described, revealing the hip break. The attending nurse admitted to dropping the baby and was immediately fired. This case provides extraordinary evidence of consciousness surviving clinical death for an extended period, with multiple verified observations including telepathic perception and remote diagnosis.
