Mark Botts, at 9 months old, developed serious bronchiolitis requiring emergency tracheotomy during which he experienced cardiac arrest. Doctors worked 40 minutes to resuscitate him. At age 3, memories surfaced when he saw a Christmas pageant. He described seeing nurses and doctors working on him, flying out of the room, and seeing his grandparents crying while holding each other in another location. He perceived they thought he was dying. He then experienced a dark tunnel with bright light at the end, found himself in a brightly lit place running in fields with God. God asked if he wanted to return home; Mark said no, but God told him he could come back another day. His out-of-body observations of specific events were verified as accurate. His mother confirmed his descriptions of where people stood were impossible to see from his position. The case is remarkable as Mark retained clear memories until at least age 5, and his observations of his grandparents' location and emotional state were independently verified.
