Sandra do Nascimento, a retired Brazilian psychiatrist with diabetes, heart symptoms, and kidney problems, experienced cardiac arrest. During her NDE, she observed two doctors and a nurse resuscitating her, then experienced the powerful presence of a light and feelings of peace and joy. According to her cardiologist, Fernanda Lanzoni, Sandra kept discussing her NDE after resuscitation. Three days later, Sandra recognized heart surgeon Leonardo Miana, who had been involved in the resuscitation, despite never having seen him before her cardiac arrest. She addressed him by his first name, Leonardo, and knew he had made an incision during resuscitation. She was moved to tears, emphasizing he had saved her life. A year later, she also recognized the other doctor who assisted Dr. Miana and addressed him by his first name. Both doctors were impressed by her recollections. Dr. Miana verified that no one could have told Sandra any details about the resuscitation. This case led Dr. Miana to become actively involved in a Brazilian project connected to the international AWARE Study. Sandra's recognition of previously unknown doctors and knowledge of specific procedures provides strong veridical evidence.
