Dr. Raymond Moody described a case where he personally resuscitated an older woman in the emergency room. While performing external cardiac massage on the exam table, a female nurse assisting him ran to another room to retrieve a needed medication vial. The vial had a glass neck that should typically be broken off while holding it in a paper towel to avoid cuts. When the nurse returned, the neck was already broken, allowing Moody to use the medication immediately. Upon regaining consciousness, the patient looked at the nurse with kindness and said, "Honey, I saw what you did in that room, and you're going to cut yourself doing that." The nurse was shocked by this statement. She admitted that in her haste, she had indeed broken off the vial's neck with her bare hands rather than using proper safety protocol with a paper towel. The patient then recounted that during the resuscitation, she had followed the nurse back into the other room to observe what she was doing. This observation would have been impossible through normal means, as the patient was undergoing cardiac massage in the ER at the time. The specific detail about the improper handling of the glass vial - a safety violation the nurse had committed privately in another room - provides strong evidence that the patient's consciousness had somehow separated from her physical body and observed events occurring outside her physical location. Dr. Moody's direct involvement as both the resuscitating physician and witness to the patient's later revelation adds credibility to this account of veridical perception during clinical death.
