A patient experienced cardiac arrest and underwent CPR resuscitation in a hospital setting. During the cardiac arrest, she had an out-of-body experience where she reported floating above everybody and observing the resuscitation scene from an elevated perspective. The patient was able to see the typical CPR procedures being performed on her body below. After successful resuscitation, she made a specific and unusual observation to a nurse who had not been present during the actual resuscitation. The patient stated that there was a penny on top of one of the cabinets in the room, noting that someone would have to climb up to see it from normal standing height. This observation seemed impossible from the patient's physical position during the cardiac arrest. When the nurse mentioned this claim to a colleague, that nurse decided to investigate. She climbed up to check the top of the cabinet and confirmed that there was indeed a penny exactly where the patient had described. This verification provided evidence that the patient had somehow perceived the room from an elevated vantage point during her cardiac arrest, consistent with her reported out-of-body experience during the resuscitation.
